If you wish to clean your crystal chandelier yourself, there are two ways that we recommend. The first way is to use the spray cleaning solution that we sell in-store. The directions are clearly printed on the bottle. The second is to mix your own cleaning solution, from warm water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid, and put into a spray bottle. In either case, some precautions must be taken. Your light must be turned off and the bulbs must be completely cool to the touch before you start (but do not remove them from the fixture). Spread towels or plastic sheeting underneath before you spray the solution you are using onto the fixture. After you spray your chandelier with the solution, you may let it drip dry or wipe with a clean, dry cloth (not paper towels as it will leave lint) and then spray it with warm water following spraying it with the mixture. The primary concern while cleaning your fixture is that you do not want to damage the finish of the frame, therefore, do not use acidic solutions (vinegar) nor strong cleansers (ammonia, bleach etc). The other thing to keep in mind while cleaning your fixture is to NOT TURN THE FIXTURE WHILE CLEANING IT, as this will loosen the connection that is holding the fixture onto the ceiling.

No, it is more important for a ceiling fan to be the right size for your space. Rooms that are 150 square feet or larger require a 52-inch diameter fan to be most effective. Smaller rooms can use either a 42-inch or 48-inch diameter model. Larger great rooms may require bigger fans with up to a 72-inch span. While most ceiling fans have five blades, that is more of an aesthetic consideration rather than a practical one.
You can reduce energy consumption by turning off your central cooling systems and relying on ceiling fans. September is usually a good time to turn off your air conditioner and turn on your ceiling fan to start saving energy and money. Imagine if everyone in Canada turned off their AC and used their fans for cooling, when the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold. Billions of kilowatt hours of energy would be saved! This action would save money too, since operating a fan can cost as little as $1 per month. That’s quite a savings compared to approximately $100 per month to run an AC unit in a typical home. In general, the further south you go, people prefer cooler light because it makes you feel cooler, and as you go north, you find warm light is more popular,” says Joe Rey-Barreau, a lighting designer and architect.
Warm light is around 2700 K (the K is for Kelvin, a temperature scale that measures light color). Bulbs 3500-4100K cast a whiter light and those 5000-6500K give off a bluer-white light. “Don’t go above 3000K in any room,” says Rey-Barreau.

Traditional lighting controls don’t work well with LED (light-emitting diode) and CFL (compact fluorescent) bulbs, because the physics of the new bulbs are much different than that of incandescent bulbs.
With LEDs and CFLs, light is emitted by a driver or ballast, which does not naturally dim. If you have a fixture with multiple incandescent bulbs and you decide to replace one burnt out bulb with an LED-equivalent version, your old traditional dimmer will not be able to control that mixed load of bulbs. - Task lighting can be provided by recessed or track lighting, pendant lighting, table lamps or floor lamps. Task lighting should enhance your ability to perform a task such as reading or hobby work by eliminating shadows and preventing eyestrain.
- Accent lighting creates interest and adds drama to your decorating scheme by allowing the light to illuminate a specific object, such as a piece of art. You can create accent lighting by using track lights, recessed lights, wall mounted lights and landscape lights (for the exterior). The huge variety of bulbs available can also greatly change the light output, direction of the light and the intensity of light output.
